Blue ribbon award for ph choir

The Patrick Henry choirs performed at Choral Assessment at Radford University last Thursday and Friday. They were judged by 3 judges on stage and then received another score on their sight-reading ability. They worked SO hard leading up to this event the last couple months and it certainly paid off:

Chamber Choir: Straight Superior Ratings on stage and a Superior in Sight-Reading

Women's Choir: Straight Superior Ratings on stage and a Superior in Sight-Reading

Concert Choir: Straight Superior Ratings on stage and a Superior in Sight-Reading (Concert Choir is our group of mostly first-year singers...this is the first time they've attended this event! They were AMAZING!)

In addition to this great accomplishment, this means something even BIGGER for our school and music program: this means PH will receive the Virginia Music Educator's Association BLUE RIBBON AWARD.

The VMEA Blue Ribbon Award is the highest award given to schools music programs in the Commonwealth of Virginia and recognizes that achieve excellence in Band, Orchestra, and Choral Performance.

All disciplines (choral, band, orchestra) in a school must receive a rating of "Superior" at assessment to qualify for this award.

To our knowledge, we do not know when the last time was that PH received a Blue Ribbon Award, or that it's ever been done. Congratulations to Mr. Midkiff, Mr. Schmitt, and Mrs. Schmitt for this tremendous acievement.
