United States History
Students and parents,

I am sure you have many questions and concerns with regards to the governor's recent decision to close schools for two weeks. Rest assured that we are working to ensure that all students are able to get through this disruption with minimal impact to their education. My first priority is the physical and mental health of my students. Please email me at lsexton@rcps.info if you have any questions or concerns.

The plan is for all U.S. History students with laptops and internet access to receive instruction via PLATO (Edmentum). Accounts have been created for all students. If you have an existing PLATO account, you should know your login credentials. Most likely it is your typical username and ID number. If you received a new account, your account login is rcps, username and password should both be your ID number. Please email me if you have questions or need help logging in. The link is:

Paper packets should be forthcoming for students without laptops/ internet. In addition, I will try to provide supplemental videos and readings. These will most likely be optional and will be posted in the announcements section below. Thanks, and remember -- we will get through this!!!

Week of 3/30 to 4/3. All assignments due by 11:59 PM on 4/5 (Sunday):

Students -- Please use this week to get caught up on all past assignments. You will be responsible for the entire PLATO course on Edmentum, so feel free to work ahead. You have one additional assignment:

1. Write me a letter letting me know how you have been doing the last two weeks and your thoughts on the coronavirus pandemic. Please be as detailed as you feel comfortable.
- I would like to know what you have been doing with your time, how you have been doing (physically, mentally, emotionally), what you miss/ what has disappointed you, but also what "silver linings" you have found. Have there been any positives for you during this crisis?
- While my main purpose in having you do this is to check in on you, my other purpose is to have you create a first-hand account of life in the time of quarantine. A historian a hundred years from now might use your letter as a primary source. With that in mind, what have been your observations so far about the pandemic? How have people responded (you, your family, your community, society, the U.S.)? What other things have you noticed? What has troubled and/or inspired you? How do you think this whole thing will end?
- Type up in a word document and email to me at lsexton@rcps.info. Minimum 1 page typed, single spaced.
