TARDY POLICY 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR

The Tardy Policy for the 2017-2018 school year will be teacher driven. Teachers will be responsible for tracking a student’s tardies. Once a student receives 4 tardies per class, the teacher is responsible to contact the student’s home to alert the parent or caretaker of the problem.

Students caught in the halls after the tardy bell rings will be escorted to their appropriate classroom for instruction. Students more than 5 minutes late to class are to be referred to their administrator for skipping class through a discipline referral. Tardies for each class will be reset to zero at the end of each semester.

To help assist with the Tardy Policy, teachers will be expected to station themselves in hallway in front of their classroom during class change to move students along and/or into their classroom. The teachers will also be expected to have a graded focus or other learning activity at the beginning of each class to aid in getting students to class on time. Failure for any student to comply with any part of the Tardy Policy will result in additional administrative action. The Tardy Policy will begin 8/28/17 and reset at the beginning of the second semester.

TARDIES 1-3

Prior to tardy 4, the teacher should have held a conference with student to discuss the tardy policy and any student supports that are needed. An additional phone call home or direct contact with parent/caregiver must be made prior to tardy 4.

FOR TARDIES 4-10

The teacher will assign the student to Lunch Detention for each tardy 4-10. To supplement learning the teacher may have the option of requiring the student to stay after school for one after school tutoring session(s) for each tardy 4-10. At tardy 4 the student will be referred to the Student Assistance Team (SAT).

FOR TARDIES 11-15

The teacher will refer the student to the student’s administrator for 1 day of ISS. In addition, the student’s administrator will schedule a Student Support Meeting at tardy 15.

FOR TARDIES 16-20

The teacher will refer the student to the student’s administrator for 2 days of ISS.

FOR TARDIES 20 PLUS

The student will be referred to the student’s administrator for administrative action.
